Alison NORDSTRÖM

Born in Boston in 1950.

Lives and works in Boston and Rochester.


Alison Nordström is Curator-at-Large at George Eastman House, the oldest and largest museum of photography in the world, responsible for major exhibitions and international collaborations. She is particularly interested in the photograph’s material and interdisciplinary nature as manifested both in its history and in contemporary art. Current initiatives include a book and exhibition on Aaron Siskind’s documentary period and an exhibition combining new and historical work to explore changes in photography’s representation of time. She is widely published and has curated more than 100 exhibitions in more than twenty countries. She holds the PhD in Cultural and Visual Studies.


Alison Nordström was nominator for the Discovery Award of the Rencontres d’Arles in 2013. She nominated Craig J. Barber who presented his series Working the Land; and Lauren Bon who presented her series Optics Division, Silver and water at the Atelier de Mécanique.
