Alain WILLAUME
Born in 1956. Lives and works in Paris.
A freelance authorial photographer, Alain Willaume is building a singular œuvre attuned to the world that he has been travelling and observing for many years. Influenced by his long journeys, and unaffiliated to any movement, he has created a personal map comprising enigmatic images that relate the violence and vulnerability of the world and of the people living in it. Having explored India since 1979, he lived and worked there from 1999 to 2003.His œuvre has been the subject of many books and exhibitions in France and elsewhere, including a retrospective in Arles in 2003 (Bords du gouffre, Editions Textuel, Paris, 2003). He won the Kodak Critics’ Award in 1979. He has been lecturing in contemporary photography at the Ecole Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in Strasbourg since 2003, and runs courses in France and elsewhere.
