TAWLET ARLES
LEBANON-ARLES SOLIDARITY CANTEEN
2 July 2019 - 7 July
10.00 AM - 12.00 AM
After giving carte blanche to the Paris Pop-Up team for two summers and creating Le Chiringuito, the Rencontres d’Arles invites you to discover Lebanon’s culinary and cultural heritage at the gourmet canteen Tawlet Arles, born of a meeting between Kamal Mouzawak and Caroline Pons. Mouzawak is the founder of Lebanon’s Tawlet, cooperative restaurants that highlight the savoir faire of women hailing from different regions of the country, as well as their traditional cuisine, all in the spirit of sharing. With the aim of upholding these traditions and sustainable agriculture, Tawlet (“table” in Arabic) mobilizes gastronomy to promote shared experience, the transmission of knowledge and social inclusion. Arles restaurateur Caroline Pons, for her part, is passionate about culinary experiences and the South of France. In 2018 she opened the canteen Simone et Paulette in Arles, where she serves her steadfastly generous cuisine. For Tawlet Arles, three women from Kamal Mouzawak’s team will be at Croisière during the Rencontres’ opening week to exchange and create their dishes alongside local chefs. Combining traditional knowledge, slow-food philosophy and shared experience, Tawlet Arles brings two Mediterranean culinary traditions together to offer gourmet festival-goers a chance to satisfy their appetites all summer long.
