Outside Arles
Ne m'oublie pas - Studio Rex, Belsunce, Marseille
Jean-Marie Donat Collection
November 9, 2024 — March 1, 2025
Bibliothèque Alcazar BMVR, Marseille
A sensitive tribute to the women, men and families in transit in Marseille between 1965 and 1980, this serial exhibition of identity and portrait photographs was born out of the discovery by collector Jean-Marie Donat of the photographic collection of Studio Rex, located in the Belsunce district of Marseille.
The abundance of portraits and the elegance of the studio photos, mainly of migrants from North and West Africa, make this exhibition unique. Its aim is to give a face to the thousands of men who came to work in France, and to lift them out of the group anonymity to which history most often condemns them.
Produced by Les Rencontres d'Arles, with the collaboration of the Fondation Antoine de Galbert.
