Photo Folio Review
Patrick Wack
winner Photo folio review 2024
Launched in 2006, Photo Folio Review offers photographers portfolio assessments the during Opening Week.
This year, among the 370 photographers, the selected project is:
Azov Horizons
by Patrick Wack
His series will be screened during the opening week ot the Rencontres d’Arles 2025.
The Azov Horizons series began in 2019 and explores the territories around the Sea of Azov through annual chapters that allow the time of history to unfold in all its complexity. In an approach that blends symbolism and documentary, the project takes the viewer in search of both the roots and the visible traces of the conflict and explores the backstage of a geographical area now engulfed in the violent struggle for control of southern Ukraine. Influenced by the American tradition of road photography, the photographer favours the detour and the wandering over the journalistic approach, to give the territory and its singularities, rather than the event, the upper hand in the narrative that builds up over the course of the images.
