Sound performance
by Reeve Schumacher

Lighthouse is an installation that combines sound and light. The 16 loudspeakers, four amplifiers and 13 fluorescent tubes are mounted like a rotating totem pole. Suspended from a variable-speed motor, the work can rotate up to 60 revolutions per minute. When it slows down, Lighthouse induces a form of hypnotic meditation. After Reeve Schumacher and his assistant, Pascal Montali, activate the work, it gathers speed until it seems as though it is about to fly off, both frightening and thrilling the audience. The artist plays his prepared records on three turntables in a sound environment, including songs, that alternates between the soothing and the tumultuous. The sound experience combined with strobe lights, on the border between analog techno and Art Brut, brings about a trance-like state similar to that of whirling dervishes.

Live performance at Croisière every Thursday at 5pm throughout the Rencontres (except August 19 and 26).
