In memoriam
Jean-Claude Gautrand
1934 — 2019
Jean-Claude Gautrand died on the night of September 24.
A journalist, critic, photographer, exhibition curator and photography historian, he sat on the Rencontres d’Arles Board of Administration from 1976 to 1995.
With Lucien Clergue, Jean-Maurice Rouquette and Michel Tournier, he was one of the pioneers of the festival, to which he always remained faithful.
He also held positions at other institutions, including the National Foundation for Photography, Photographic Heritage and the Jeu de Paume.
With his death, French photography has lost one of its greatest advocates.
Hubert Védrine, president of the Rencontres d'Arles, Sam Stourdzé, director, the Board of Administration and the entire festival team pay him homage.
