Michael Wolf
1954 — 2019
Michael Wolf passed away on April 23th.
Born in Germany in Munich, Michael Wolf grew up in Canada, Europe and the United States. In 1994, he moved to Hong Kong where he worked for eight years as a photographer for Stern magazine. Since 2001, Wolf has been focusing on his personal projects about the architecture and vernacular culture of the cities. With exhibitions all over the world, his work on how people live in megacities is featured in the permanent collections of many museums. He won the World Press Photo Award in 2005 and 2010. In 2010 and 2016, Wolf was nominated for the Pictet Award. He has published more than thirty-two photography books.
In 2017, the Rencontres d’Arles devoted him a great retrospective exhibition at the Église des Frères Prêcheurs.
