CONFIRMING 2015’S SUCCESS, SAM STOURDZÉ’S SECOND RENCONTRES DREW MANY VISITORS TO CHALLENGING PROJECTS
The bold choices on this year’s programme made that satisfaction all the greater. Designed by festival director Sam Stourdzé, it again aimed for eclecticism and breaking down walls between disciplines. There was no overarching theme, but major sections attested to a wide array of approaches and practices, from street photography revisited to African photography, fresh approaches to documentary photography, collections, outsized formats and installations.
Young photographers featured prominently on the programme. In particular, the artists of the Discovery Prize were part of the exhibitions more than ever.
