NIGHT OF THE YEAR
July 8 2023
8PM — 3AM
The opening week’s unmissable festive event, a visual walk through forty photographic proposals projected in loops onto large screens, will take place at the abandoned industrial site of the former Étienne paper mill, exceptionally open for the occasion. Bringing together some of the festival’s favorite photographs, projects, and institutions, this great celebration of photography will feature performances, concerts, and DJ sets, with food trucks and bars on site.
THE PRINCES by Tony Gatlif
21:45PM — Midnight
To complement this summer’s exhibition Light of Saints. A Photographic Pilgrimage at the Chapel of the Museon Arlaten, the Rencontres d’Arles has invited director Tony Gatlif (Latcho Drom, Gadjo dilo, Exils, Liberté, Tom Medina…) to tell us the story of the Gitanos, Manouches, Romani, and Travelers of France and Europe.
21:45PM — Midnight
The Rencontres Live Magazine was launched one night in Arles six years ago. The idea was to create, in the Théâtre Antique, a "99% real" ephemeral experience: a group of photographers, artists, filmmakers and journalists who would tell with a great deal of trepidation what they could not tell elsewhere, thus founding, for one evening only, a living newspaper.
WITH STUART BOGIE
4 JULY 2023
09.45 PM - Midnight
For the past thirty years, Gregory Crewdson has been creating a meditative portrait of an America whose wide-open eyes have been blinded by the lights of an exhausted dream. His photographs evoke fragments of a twilight world, combining an autobiographical dimension with the fragility of ordinary lives in search of transcendence.
