AUGUST 28 AND 29, TWO EXCEPTIONAL RENCONTRES D’ARLES EVENINGS TO PROLONG THE JOURNÉES D’AGIR POUR LE VIVANT

The Rencontres d'Arles is teaming up with the first edition of Agir pour le Vivant (“Action for Living Things”), a major festival conceived by the Actes Sud publishing house. From August 24 to 30, this new space for reflection and discussion invites you to put the living back at the heart of debates and to come and meet people imagining the world of tomorrow. Around 100 guests—writers, philosophers, scientists, gardeners, botanists, agronomists, herbalists, entrepreneurs and environmental activists—will be invited to take part in conferences, lectures, panel discussions, exhibitions and screenings to renew the great history of man's relationship with nature.

SOLD OUT!
The evenings will also be broadcast live at 8:45 pm (7:45 pm GMT) on the festival’s website and social media.
Only in french.

ARLES, FRIDAY, AUGUST 28, 9 PM, ANCIENT THEATER
EDGAR MORIN

GREAT WITNESS
In a time of ecological emergency, when a virus is roiling the state of the world, Edgar Morin offers thoughts in images on the origins and the future of life.

JOANA CHOUMALI/PRIX PICTET
ÇA VA ALLER
A conversation with the Ivorian photographer, winner of the Prix Pictet 2019.The award’s theme, Hope, and the title of the winning series, Ça va aller (“It’ll Be Alright”), are especially relevant in these troubled times. In response to the terrorist attack in Grand-Bassam, her work, using mixed techniques (embroidery and photography), shapes a truth that transcends the limitations of language.

CYRIL DION
AN ECOLOGICAL IMAGE? THE BATTLE OF NARRATIVES
We like to spin yarns. Since the dawn of time, we’ve built our lives around myths. What about the ecological story today? Will it succeed in supplanting the dominant consumerist narrative? With what images will we be able to tell this new story?

ARLES, SATURDAY, AUGUST 29, 9 PM, ANCIENT THEATER
THE RENCONTRES LIVE MAGAZINE
Live Magazine is a crazy idea, a unique, ephemeral show. That is undoubtedly the key to its success. By inventing a living newspaper and bringing photographers, journalists and artists on stage, Live Magazine restores all the power of true stories: their ability to captivate, to transmit emotion and to sweep an audience away. Ten people—star photographers, writers with rare voices and jobless people—will take turns on the Ancient Theatre’s stage. In pictures, sounds or the spoken word, they will relate an unforgettable meeting, a devouring passion or an unprecedented investigation. Their stories are 100% unpublished, 99% true.
