THE BMW RESIDENCY AT THE MUSÉE NICÉPHORE-NIÉPCE 2012 WINNER
Marion Gronier
THE GLORIOUS ONES
Winner of the second BMW Residency at the Musée Nicéphore-Niépce, Marion Gronier exhibits the work carried out at Chalon-sur-Saône. There is nothing more contradictory in what we see here than these ravaged faces and their worried or absent eyes. We feel uncomfortable. Everything feels doubtful or resigned. These photographs come to us, submerged in their own light, and impose figures on the way to dissolution. The immobile, often wild and dazed gaze shows the instant of passing from lucidity to abandonment, the transformation of a conscious objet into a lost one, because it is stupefied. It is in this non-event that the photographic act suddenly appears. The bodies acknowledge their gravity when the mute faces decompose in the light of a makeshift studio. This photography is a science of the seesaw effect, an instinctive understanding of collapse.
