Taking a realistic approach to the medium, FOCALE exhibits work that resembles documentary photography with its own distinctive style.
It has presented material by renowned photographers such as Denis Brihat, Gilles Caron, Denis Dailleux, Robert Frank, Leonard Freed, Gilbert Garcin, Mario Giacomelli, Andreas Horvath, Klavdij Sluban and Paolo Woods.
FOCALE supports photographers who propose complete, substantial, quality works that demonstrate deep thought on both form and content. It emphasizes original treatment of the subject and the relevance of the author's vision, two decisive criteria in the selection of exhibitions.
The innovative aspect of the work proposed, particularly in French-speaking Switzerland, is also taken into consideration.
After graduating from the École de photographie de Vevey in 2003, Aurélien Garzarolli took over the Actinic studio in Geneva in 2007, collaborating with some of the biggest names in international photography and contemporary art, earning him a key place in the field of printing and current photographic production.
He works with Geneva institutions such as the Rath Museum and the Red Cross and with renowned international photographers such as David Lynch, Gérard Traquandi and Sophie Calle.
Since 2008, he has accompanied his work as a photographer at Actinic with a position on the board of the FOCALE association in Nyon, selecting the works of the best photographers and designing all of the gallery’s exhibitions.
