Finnish Museum of Photography, Curators, Finland

3 Afternoon
Orlan Ohtonen (they/he) is a curator and writer based in Helsinki, Finland. Currently they work as Curator of Exhibitions at the Finnish Museum of Photography; and co-organise trans inclusive sauna events under the name Sweat and Tears.
Their practice is focused on producing, exhibiting and preserving underrepresented narratives; and on incorporating means of critical management into the work of curating and producing. Orlan has been actively building self-organised platforms for intersectional art practices as part of the collectives ‘nynnyt’ (2014-2021); as Co-Founder of feminist and anti-racist workspace Poimu (2018-2022); and as Co-Founder and Co-Director of Feminist Culture House (2019-2022).
Päiviö Omwami and Orlan Ohtonen are interested in meeting artists who work with concepts of race, Blackness, decolonization, gender, and critique of social norms.
They are also interested in practices that deal with the relationship between images and reality, and that investigate the utilization and weaponization of photographic images.
