Mindaugas Kavaliauskas (Lithuania) In 2004 Mindaugas founded KAUNAS PHOTO festival that he has been directing until 2022. KAUNAS PHOTO was the longest-running art photography festival in the Baltic states. He is curator, cultural manager, publisher of photography. From 2019 to 2024 Mindaugas was the director Lithuanian Aviation Museum. In 2024 he co-curates a program of photography as a part of Lithuania's Cultural Season in France that includes Lithuanian and international photography. Mindaugas Kavaliauskas studied photography in Kaunas, Arles, Paris, Lausanne. He has been interning at Les Rencontres de la Photographie in Arles (France, 1998-2002) and Muse_e de l'Elysée in Lausanne (Switzerland, 2000-2001).
He has been teaching photography in different universities, schools and consulting artists, curated a number of exhibitions in photographic festivals, galleries, museums in Europe and Asia – Pacific region: FotoGrafia (Rome), Fotohonap (Budapest), Photaumnales (Beauvais, France), Photodemer (Vannes, Fracnce), Backlight (Tampere, Finland), Pingyao and Lishui festivals (China), Auckland festival of photography (New Zealand) etc.
He has organized numerous photographers' art residencies. On his return to photography curatorial practice, Mindaugas Kavaliauskas is interested in and open to all styles, themes of photography. Documentary image remains the keystone of his interests.
Kristina Juraite (Lithuania) PhD in sociology and co-founder of KAUNAS PHOTO festival, Kristina Juraite is a professor of Media and Communication at Vytautas Magnus university, researching and teaching on the communicative power of photographic images. Kristina has gained her MA Degree at Central European University and her PhD at Vytautas Magnus University (Kaunas). She has published a number of scientific articles, most of them illustrated with creative photography. She is a co-curator of numerous exhibitions and residencies, research internships. She has been reviewing and jurying photography at portfolio reviews and competitions in Lithuania, Croatia, Poland, France and other countries.
