LJUBISA DANILOVIC
Ljubisa Danilovic was born in Paris on August 24, 1974. His photographic work is often born from a fascination for a territory that echoes his own history. At the beginning of the 2000s, he questioned his dual Franco-Yugoslav identity through a series on Serbian youth, Avoir 20 ans à Belgrade ( éditions Alternatives, 2003). He devoted the following decade to traveling further east, to Russia, where the demographic drop served him as a pretext to tell a more intimate story; The Russian Desert, (Lamaindonne editions, 2015). For fifteen years he has been returning to the Danube Delta, in Romania, where he projects his questions on the relationship that man has with nature, as well as his fears linked to a great collapse to come;Payne’s moon (Lamaindonne editions, June 2018). His latest book Georgia – A History of Migration (Editions Lamaindonne 2022) is a historical perspective on the migratory phenomenon, as well as a narrative exploration of the text/image relationship.
Ljubiša Danilović is also a director and is passionate about all forms of storytelling that uses photography. He teaches photographic narration at the Milk Photography Masterclass, of which he is the co-founder, as well as at the Rencontres d'Arles festival where he is an internship supervisor. He has also been a Fujifilm ambassador since 2011.
“I tell simple and intimate stories, often metaphorical, sometimes political. I work in such a way that my words appear implicitly, through the sensitive links that I weave between my images. I like when the strength of a photograph emerges from the right place it found in a series, even more so when this image is without embellishment. All my narration work tends towards the creation of something off-camera”.
