Pentti Sammallahti
Born in 1950 in Helsinki. Lives and works in Helsinki.
Pentti Sammallahti conceived a passion for photography early in life and held his first one-man show in 1971. In 1974 he became a teacher, first at Lahti Art School, then at the Helsinki School of Art and Design. In the ‘90s he conducted a large number of photographic expeditions through Europe, Asia, and Siberia; these expeditions were to continue into the 21st century. In 2005 he visited Africa on a commission for Japan Today. His work is currently exhibited throughout the world in both private and public collections. He is passionately interested in photography books and photographic reproduction techniques, and has conceived and published over forty books and portfolios, listed by ‘Opus’, of which thirteen are dedicated to his own work.
