Lauren Bon
Born in 1962 in New Haven. Lives and works in Los Angeles.
Lauren Bon holds a Masters of Architecture degree from MIT and a BA from Princeton. In 2005, her project Not A Cornfield transformed a 32-acre industrial brownfield into a cornfield adjacent to the Los Angeles River and initiated her Metabolic Studio. Bon’s scale associates her projects with monumentality—‘artists must create on the same scale that society has the capacity to destroy’. The Studio’s MoUs, or Memoranda of Understanding, with Federal, State, and City government, create collaboration with the powers that govern land use. In 2010 the Optics Division of the Metabolic Studio began documenting Ms Bon’s signature projects.
