With a degree in art and semiotics, Taryn Simon combines photography, text, graphics, and objects in her documentary projects. Her series The Innocents (2003), followed by American Index of the Hidden and Unfamiliar, shown at the Whitney Museum (2007), gained her international recognition. Associated with the “archivist” art movement, she exposes the faults and failures of our information systems in poetic diversions of documentary protocol.
