Jiří Kovanda

Jiří Kovanda, a self-taught artist, devised her first performances in the context of the post-Prague Spring, and the Warsaw Pact Invasion of Czechoslovakia. Through her “happenings,” ephemeral works created in and for the public space, she denounced and opposed the absurdity of life under the communist dictatorship.
