Close to Andre Kertész, Brassaï arrived in Paris in 1924, joining the surrealists early on. His first book, Paris de Nuit, was a success. He worked as a photographer for Vogue, Paris Magazine, and Harper’s Bazaar until 1963, gaining recognition in his later years for several exhibitions, and the publication of Graffiti (1961), Le Paris des années trente (1976), and Les Artistes de ma vie (1982).
