Juan Obando
Born 1980, Bogotá, Colombia.
Juan Obando holds a BA in Industrial Design (Universidad de los Andes, Bogotá) and MFA in Electronic Time-based Art (Purdue University, Indiana). Selected solo shows include: Museum Mixtape, Reverse Art Space, Brooklyn; The Champions, Banco de la República, Bogotá; Default Browser , (bis)|oficina de proyectos, Cali and NADA, Bogotá; A Bird Without a Song, ArtVersus, Bogotá; and White Only, MIAMI, Bogotá. Selected group exhibits include: I Bienal Internacional de Arte Contemporáneo, Cartagena, Colombia; Selections, Bakalar and Paine Galleries, Boston; and ArteCámara, ArtBo, Bogotá. He was awarded a Rhizome Commission from Rhizome and the New Museum, NYC. His installations, videos, performance, and experimental publications focus on the critical intervention of social circuits through the orchestration of temporary situations, using social phenomena as raw material and humor as a catalyst for highlighting systemic ironies and contradictions.
