Zofia Kulik
Born 1947 in Wrocław, Poland.
Lives and works in Warsaw, Poland.
An important figure of Polish avant-garde. Trained as a sculptor, she chose performance, film and photography as her preferred medium. First active in the artistic duo KwieKulik (1971-1987) with her partner at the time Przemysław Kwiek, they created an alternative, subversive space independent from the official artistic circuit. Then, she devoted herself to photography, realizing complex, monumental photomontages. Kulik represented Poland at the Venice Biennial (1997), showed at Documenta 12 (2007) and had individual exhibitions in many institutions. Her works are in the collections of many museums, including MNAM Center Pompidou, Tate Modern, MoMA, Moderna Museet, Museum Sush.
