BLEDA ET ROSA.

María Bleda (born 1969 in Castellón) and José María Rosa (born 1970 in Albacete)
Their work centres on history, time and the residual, latent memory of the empty spaces that they choose for their photographs, as in their earlier series Campos de fútbol ("Football grounds") and Campos de batalla ("Battlegrounds"), which portray bleak places. In Ciudades ("Towns"), they focus on the constructive concept, on human settlements and the remains of villages and towns that hark back to the origins of the civilisations which, on the Iberian Peninsula, grew out of the remains of Celtic, Phoenician, Arab and Roman cultures. Their most recent work, Origen ("Origin"), charts a course through the theories of human evolution – and through places where, at certain moments in history, the cradle of humanity was located. Their personal exhibitions include: Elba Benítezgallery, Madrid, 1996; Pedro Oliveira gallery, Porto, 1999; Visor gallery, Valencia, 2000; Salamanca university and Collioure Museum of Modern Art, both in 2001; Kunsthalle zu Kiel, 2003, and Forvm Chantal Grande gallery, Tarragona, 2004. In 2002 they took part in Manifesta IV, Frankfurt, and in 2004 in Mediterranean: between reality and utopia, The Photographers’ Gallery, London.
