Eleni BAKOPOULOS
Born in 1972, Toronto (Canada).
Eleni Bakopoulos studied art at the University of Guelph and York University in Toronto.
Her work is characterised by an ongoing dialogue between the old and the new, an atmosphere of nostalgic affection for art history and a desire to explore the matter art is made of. Working between old and new ideologies, and between the limitations of the past and the concerns of the present, she sees herself as a go-between, filling the gap between the beauty and freedom to be found in art history and the concerns of an art world that is increasingly trained, complex and politically conscious.
Eleni Bakopoulos presented her work at the Rencontres d'Arles 2006: Minotaure, Eleni Bakopoulos in Arles.
