Stephanie Kiwitt studied photography at the Institute of Creative Photography (Opava, Czech Republic) and at the Academy of Visual Arts (Leipzig, Germany). She has lived in Brussels since her 2009 residency at the Wiels Contemporary Art Centre. Her artwork’s point of departure is the photographic observation of sites that represent an ongoing commercialisation of public space and everyday spheres of life. In the process, she works with series and ensembles of pictures, each assuming a specific form in a book or an exhibition space. In 2015 her work was shown in exhibitions at Camera Austria (Graz), Wiels Contemporary Art Centre (Brussels), Fotograf Festival (Prague), and Centre de la Photographie Genève.
