The leading young people’s autumn event,
from Wednesday 3 September to Saturday 13 september 2008.

For the fifth year, the Rencontres d’Arles is offering school pupils a free, day-long introduction to images in all their forms and Arles’ rich cultural heritage.

In 2007, some 7,300 lower and upper secondary school pupils, (230 classes) from the Aix-Marseille, Nice and Montpellier areas have already experienced this strand of the festival.

The ten activities on offer give teachers the freedom to concoct an à la carte, cross-disciplinary and interactive programme with support from the scheme’s staff including: introductions to reading images, screenings, platform events with photographers, round-town discovery itineraries, and tours of exhibitions and emblematic monuments.

The partners of Back to School in Images 2008 are:

Provence-Alpes-Côtes d’Azur (PACA) Region, PACA cultural-affairs directorate, Languedoc-Roussillon Region, Ministry of Education (SCEREN/CNDP; education authorities of Aix-Marseille, Nice and Montpellier; Aix-Marseille centre for pedagogical documentation); Bouches-du-Rhône and Gard Departments, City of Arles, National Photography School, Musée de l’Arles et de la Provence Antiques, Château d’Avignon, Museon Arlaten, CAUE.
