In recognition of the extraordinary expansion of photography book publishing and as a contribution to increased audience reach, a second Rencontres d'Arles book award will be presented in 2008.
The Contemporary Book Award
(8,000 €) goes to a book involving a specific creative project, while
the Historical Book Award
(8,000 €) goes to a thematic or monographic work of research. Both prizes are shared equally between the publisher and the photographer (or, where applicable, a group of authors or holders of rights).
For 2008 the books in question were published between 1st June 2007 and 31st May 2008. Prizewinners are chosen by a jury comprising Elisabeth Biondi, Caroline Issa and Masoud Golsorkhi, Nathalie Ours, Carla Sozzani, Luis Venegas, together with Rencontres d'Arles president François Barré and Maja Hoffmann of the Fondation Luma, our Awards partner.
All the books entered for the Awards will be on display to the public throughout the festival (8th July – 14th September). This exhibition has been a great success over the last six years. Copies will be also be donated to the National School of Photography library, where they will be available for consultation.
