Vincent FOURNIER

Sabotage

April 16th-21th (6 days)

The mind is a formidable piece of machinery, capable of providing an answer to practically everything. But what happens when the machine goes off course?

Through a series of photographic images, participants will try to create a frame shift or anomaly in an apparently ordinary situation.

Having chosen a theme which interests them, what they will be asked to do is create a scene that includes a disturbing element. The idea is to pervert common sense judgement and make people think again about something that appears normal.

Our need for certainties is natural but, if one can suspend one's judgement, things take on a potentially different meaning. The exercise is a chance to alter our point of view, so as to expand the framework of what we think we are familiar with.

VINCENT FOURNIER

After a degree in Sociology and a Masters in Visual Art, he gained a post-graduate diploma (1997), at the École Nationale de la Photographie d’Arles (French National Photography School). With a Cannes Festival Bronze medal and a Golden Clio Award to his name, Vincent Fournier works in a very characteristic style that mixes reality with the fantastic. His two series, 'The Man Machine' and 'Space project', plunge us into a universe where science fiction and reality merge together. 'Tour Operator' reveals an ironic and aesthetic vision of our world and its domesticated landscapes. He is the author of two books: Tour operator, Éditions AD2 (2007), and Space Project, Éditions Verkhac (2008), and he is represented by seven international galleries in Paris, Brussels, London, Milan, Tokyo, New-York and Los Angeles. His photographs are published in View On Color, Crash and Wall Paper. His works have been exhibited at the Galerie Interface, Marseille, and also at the Vitoria Centre for Contemporary Art (Centro-Museo Vasco de Arte Contemporáneo) in Spain, in 2004.
