For the 2012 edition, the INA (Institut National de l’Audiovisual) reaffirms its progress in terms of the
protection of audiovisual heritage and extends its field of activity through this partnership with the Rencontres Internationales Photographiques d’Arles. Since its creation, the INA has participated in the struggle against the loss of audiovisual forms and knowledge, and the various mediums associated with them. For this reason, the Institut commits its support to the festival by investing its expertise with regard to the preservation of cultural audiovisual heritage.
Les Rencontres d’Arles and the INA have agreed to a long-term collaborative process to protect the festival’s audiovisual archive that has been building since 1973 and presently contains no less than 684 audio, video and film recordings of conferences, interviews and other discussions. These numerous documents that have, until now, defied existing conservation means will henceforth be protected and conserved under the aegis of the INA, more than ever the guarantor of this national audiovisual heritage.
