FLOWERS FOR _ _ _ _ [2004-2008]

Nigel Shafran’s current work is characterized by the quiet observation of daily life, focusing on deliberately low-key subject-matter that is often domestic in nature: the washing-up, his Dad’s office, charity shops and repeatedly his partner Ruth and their son Lev.

Yet his work extracts from these everyday situations something profound and consistently beautiful, the sense of a natural order amid the chaos of ordinary things.

‘What is most important to Shafran is the subject itself, the specific demands it makes at one moment in time and how that might be effectively communicated’.
